Pompeii

I think we chose the hottest day that Pompeii has ever known ! It was just a killer outside and we kept diving into shady parts when we could find them and that wasn’t too often - I think we consumed litres and litres of water in the hours we were there.
Of course the tragic but fascinating history of Pompeii truly draws you into the ruined village which was destroyed during an eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79AD. When the volcano erupted it buried the city under ash and it was lost for 1,600 year before its accidental discovery. When two cities were buried (being Pompeii and Herculaneium) 20,000 people died. The interest and tourist perspective of the cities is that of course the buried buildings are still standing after nearly 2000 years.
Pompeii is well worth the visit and truly is incredible to be part of such an historical ruin. From Pompeii it was a long and tiring bus and train ride to Bari. Click here to return home.
